Göran Fristorp
Göran Fristorp was born on May 26th 1948 in Örebro, Sweden. He started his musical career already in the 60s. He followed the music program in Framnäs Folkhögsskole, and studied at The Conservatory of Göteborg. He was a member in numerous bands at that time.
Fristorp’s big breakthrough came in 1973, when he won the Swedish finals of the Eurovision Song Contest with Claes af Geijerstam and the group Malta, with the song "Sommaren som aldrig säger nej". They took the 5th place in the international finals. Several tours in Sweden followed up.
Fristorp performed as warm-up artist for the Dutch group Ekseption on their tour in Germany in 1974-1975, and went on a tour in The Soviet Union with Sylvia Vrethammar.
Fristorp’s first album "Egna låtar" came out in 1974. Since then he has collaborated with many acknowledged Swedish and Norwegian musicians, including Arne Domnérus, Putte Wickman, Ivan Renliden, Arild Andersen, Sissel Kyrkjebø, Herborg Kråkevik, Karoline Krüger, Beppe Wolgers, Helen Sjöholm, Anna Lotta Larsson, Lars Jansson, Gladys del Pilar, and Sylvia Vrethammar. He has published more than 20 albums, and he has been accredited as the author of most of the songs.
Fristorp’s career took off not only in Sweden, but also in Norway, where his albums were released and where he toured extensively.
Fristorp has often collaborated with the Swedish composer and choirmaster Leif Strand. Their most well known recording is the album from 1975, "Göran Fristorp sjunger Nils Ferlin", that has been selling well to this day. The songs "Men går jag över ängarna" and "Syner i lövsprickningen" are among his most popular songs.
Fristorp’s musical style is hard to place in just one musical genre, and is influenced by jazz and folk songs, among others.
Fristorp’s new album came out in November 2013. It is recorded with The Norwegian Radio Orchestra and presents Fristorp’s classics in classical arrangements together with the new song "Säg mig".
